A parent is a child’s first – and best – teacher. That’s why we’re working to involve parents and families early and often, creating a supportive environment for children at home. Dorchester County First Steps supports family strengthening through two home visitation strategies, Parent Child Home (PCH) and Parents as Teachers (PAT).

Parent Child Home (PCH) is a home visitation program offered by Dorchester County School District Two and Four, with funding support from Dorchester County First Steps, for eligible families. Parent Child Home Program brings an Educator into your home twice a week for a thirty minute visit to work on readiness skills with you and your child. The age appropriate books and toys used in these visits are for you and your child to keep and use to enhance your child’s language and early literacy skills. To learn more about the Parent Child Home in Dorchester School District Two contact Susan Gaston at 832-5541 and in Dorchester School District Four contact Delores Footman at 563-5923.

Parent as Teachers (PAT) is a home visitation program offered by Dorchester County First Steps to eligible families of Dorchester County. The home visits are designed to equip parents with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote school readiness, healthy development and long-term success for their pre-school child.
